After being away for nearly 18 months, Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta put on show of boxing skills and precision as he dominated the 10-round fight against Mexico’s Gilberto “El Flacco” Gonazalez (26-4-0). Mercito controlled the fight with guidance from his Coach Marvin Somodio (Wild Card Boxing Club), his father Anecito Gesta, and cut-woman Marites Macasadia. This was the first fight with the Filipino Freddie Roach (Marvin) in his corner. As Mercito stated, “I like Marvin a lot as he is very calm, straightforward, and a great coach. I listened to him and my corner, and we came out with a victory.
Mercito won his 30th fight, in front of a sold-out crowd at the Chelsea Arena at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The No Mercy fans were in the house cheering, “NO MERCY! NO MERCY! MERCITO! MERCITO!. Fans from all ages came from the Philippines, San Diego, LA, Australia, and the UK to watch the fight. It was a great night of boxing on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes brought to the boxing world by Golden Boy Promotions.

In the world of boxing: Mercito Gesta once again showed no mercy to his opponent over the weekend. Gesta won, via unanimous decision, against Mexican opponent Gilberto Flaco Gonzalez. After a 10 round slugfest, Mercito No Mercy Gesta is back in the boxing game. A swollen face and a left eye that can he barely open was the face of Gonzalez, in the aftermath of his fight with Gesta. Gesta proved that despite being out of the ring for a year and a half, he still packs a killer punch.
The Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas was at capacity for Saturdays fight night. Boxing fans from all over trooped to witness Mercitos comeback in the boxing ring. Gesta slugged it out with Gonzalez as a co-main event of the Orozco-Gibson fight in the lightweight division. Gesta was in full control of the fight except for the 3rd round, when he was knocked down. He calls it an error on his side, since he wasnt expecting the uppercut from Gonzales.
After that 10 rounds, I feel that everything is good, Im back, and I just need to fix a little bit of it, kase yung mind set ko is not like that its been a while too na hindi ako nakalaban, Gesta said. Hopefully a couple of months from now, I want to comeback and fight again. I feel good; everything is good right now, my therapy for my surgery tsaka yung conditioning ko.
Gesta draws inspiration from kababayans who support him, despite being sidelined for quite a while. With the score of 96-93, 99-91, and 98-92, Gesta won via unanimous decision.
Mercito now holds a record of 30 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses, with 16 knockouts.
