Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta is back stronger than ever before!! Watch the return of main event, Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta back in action this April 11th, 2014 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Opponent is yet to be announced. “I’m so excited to be fighting here in San Diego!! I wanted my comeback fight to be here in front of my hometown fans….they have been waiting for me, and now I’m here”, as stated by Mercito Gesta.
It has been just over a year since Mercito’s last bout, fighting undercard for Manny Pacquiao vs.Juan Manuel Marquez bout IV at the MGM Grand Hotel, Las Vegas Nevada. Shortly after Mercito’s fight with Miguel Vazquez, Mercito took a positive break from his love of boxing to visit his family, relatives, and long-time friends in Mandaue Cebu, Philippines. It was there in Cebu that Mercito had a lot of time to reflect about what happened during his fight against Miguel Vazquez. “It was the big show, my fight was under the biggest boxing venue and legendary boxing names in the world. I understand my loss; I’ve matured through it and feel it was a good learning experience for me. I give credit to Miguel Vazquez as he fought a great fight. I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to fight for a championship belt, and I will never forget that experience. I have learned a lot, and No Mercy is coming back even stronger.”
After the well-deserved time off, Mercito returned from the Philippines to prepare for his next opponent Ajose Olusegun (31-2) which was scheduled for July 19th, 2013 on ESPN2 Friday Night fights. However, during Mercito’s training in June 2013, he was injured in the ring while sparring in his adopted hometown of San Diego. Mercito’s injury was an unexpected setback cancelling his fight against Ajose Olusegun. “I felt really bad, as I wanted to come back for my fans and my family here, and for my fans in the Philippines”, Mercito calmly stated. Even after his injury, Mercito remained focused and determined to move forward in his boxing career.
The summer of 2013 was a great time for recovery both physically and mentally for Mercito. He spent many weeks and months strengthening his injury. After several discussions with his family and key figures in his boxing career, Mercito decided to revamp his team. Assigning his father Anecito Gesta, Sr. as his Head Trainer and Manager, mother Mercedes Gesta as his Nutritionist, brother Anecito “DonDon” Gesta, Jr. as his new cut man, Obie Sibug as his corner man, Henry Zulueta as his Assistant Trainer, Chris Almazan his Videographer, Duenas Aris his Photographer, and Neil Macasadia his Team Advisor. “With this New Team Gesta, I have my family and close friends that I feel comfortable with….”, Mercito explained.
As the New Team Gesta was formed, Mercito entrusted his Team Advisor Neil Macasadia to work on finding the right Promotional deal for him that would propel his boxing career in the right direction. As months passed, many negotiations and offers were put out on the table, however only one promotional offer was the perfect fit for Mercito Gesta. With the collaborative efforts between Matchmaker Robert Diaz of Golden Boy Promotions, Don Chargin & Jorge Marron Productions, and Barron Entertainment, Mercito grabbed the opportunity to fight in his adopted hometown of San Diego, CA.
As Robert Diaz stated, “A new beginning, a new team, and a new Mercito Gesta. A loss does not end a career, in fact that is where fighters become champions!”
All No Mercy fans, please come out and support Mercito Gesta on April 11, 2014 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, as he embarks on a new journey to fulfill his dreams to become a world champion. It will be a packed night of boxing action in San Diego!!

Never count Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta out! On December 8, 2012, Mercito lost his first ever fight against Miguel Vazquez in a unanimous decision for the IBF Lightweight Title fight (FIGHT PHOTOS) at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. As Miguel Vazquez retained his IBF Title, he visited Mercito in his locker room and told him that he is a strong fighter and will be a champion one day.
As stated by Bert Salamida, one of Mercito’s fans in San Diego, “Failure is a stepping stone on the path to success”. Although Mercito suffered his first failure in his boxing career, Mercito will learn from this championship fight, grow to become stronger and hungrier, and build the confidence once again to be the champion that Vazquez predicts in the future. This failure was a big stepping stone for Mercito which will eventually lead to future success in his boxing career.
Fans and family (EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS) all over the world believe in Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta and we are proud of his courage and efforts during his championship fight.
From Mercito, Gesta Family, and Team Gesta, “Thanks to everyone for all the support!”

LAS VEGAS — Mercito Gesta didn’t get a title Saturday night.
But he did get a lesson.
Mexico’s Miguel Angel Vazquez easily out-classed Gesta to successfully defend his International Boxing Federation lightweight title on the undercard of the fourth Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Vazquez scored a unanimous decision. The only surprise was that one judge gave Gesta three rounds. The Spring Valley resident won two rounds on another card and one round on the third.
Some observers at ringside had Vazquez winning every round while others gave him only the ninth and/or 10th rounds.
Vazquez never hurt Gesta. In fact, Gesta might have had the two best punches of the fight, a pair of hard rights thrown in a 15-second span of the ninth round.
But although both fighters are 25 years old, Vazquez worked like a veteran champion while Gesta appeared inexperienced in just his 28th boxing match. The former Muay Thai kick boxer from The Philippines never boxed as an amateur while Vazquez had more than a hundred amateur fights before turning pro.
The inexperience cost Gesta, who has boxed out of San Diego since 2007. He was unable to stop the unorthodox Vazquez from counter-punching while relentlessly circling to his left.
“He was so awkward in the ring,” Gesta said of Vazquez. “I never got my rhythm going.”
“Cut him off, force the action,” Gesta’s trainer Vince Parra said between many of the early rounds. “Don’t let him frustrate you. Don’t play his game.”
But he did.
“Vazquez runs away,” Gesta said days before his first title fight. “I plan to slow him down, cut off the ring and get inside and work the body when I can. I can’t let him stay on the move.”
Vazquez was never slowed. He was never cut off. And Gesta never worked the body.
“The game plan was to move and box and it went perfectly,” said Vazquez of Guadalajara, Mexico.

In 2006, a young Cebuano by the name of Mercito Gesta crossed the Pacific to the US to realize his pugilistic dreams and hoped to follow in the footsteps of Pinoy boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, who at the time, had just taken the boxing world by storm.
Armed with hardly anything more than his courage and his fists, the 19-year-old left his family in Mandaue City and bought into the promise and possibility of a similar rags-to-riches story by a promotional outfit and its namesake.
Though things didn’t necessarily pan out the way he initially hoped, and he found out quickly that promises made oceans away were far from the reality he stumbled upon, Gesta took difficult detours, and yet found a way to arrive at his original destination. Finally, a world title fight.
After much work, some luck, and taking on every hurdle thrown at him, Gesta finally gets a crack at a world title when he faces IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez on the undercard of Pacquiao-Marquez 4 this Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“I’m ready,” Gesta told this scribe ever so succinctly.
