Hello boxing world!!  There is a new star that is roaring up the boxing ranks.  His name is Mercito “NO MERCY” Gesta who plans to fight his way to be the best in the world.

Growing up in Mandaue City of Cebu, Philippines, Mercito was immediately introduced to martial arts by his father Anecito Gesta.  Anecito, a professional Muay Thai fighter during the time of Mercito childhood, paved the way for Mercito to venture into combat sports.  Although Mercito did train in mix martial arts as a young prospect, his interest grew in the sport of boxing.  When Mercito turned 15, he decided to train hard and enter the realm of the boxing world.

With the guidance of the legendary boxing training Carl Penalosa, Mercito began training in a small gym in Lioan, Cebu.  It is here where both Carl and his father, Anecito realized how Mercito was a gifted boxer and would do very well in the sport.  As the months went by, Mercito trained hard and dedicated himself to the sport of boxing to prove that he can become successful in this sport.

On October 19, 2003, Mercito entered his first professional fight without any amateur fights to take on Edwin Picardel at the Joe Cantada Boxing Arena, Barangay Bagumbayan, Taguig City, Metro Manila, Philippines.  In the ring, Mercito displayed his boxing prowess and ring leadership which helped him earn a unanimous decision over Edwin Picardel in four rounds.  This was just a start to Mercito’s climb to the top of the boxing world.

In the next eight fights, Mercito continued his boxing success by defeating several great challengers.  In November 5, 2005, Mercito suffered his first technical draw due to a head butt above his eyelid in the second round of his fight against the legendary Rey Llagas (58-28-2).  Though this was a road bump in his quest for the championship belt, Mercito pressed on winning the next several fights and finally emerging in the United States on August 4, 2007 against Carlos Madrid (8-3-2) at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.  Once again, Mercito prevailed winning a majority decision in 10 hard fought rounds.

In Mercito’s 18th fight against Oscar Meza (19-3) at Tampa, Florida, Mercito surprised the boxing world by knocking out Oscar Meza with vicious body punches in the fourth round.  Mercito took home the NABO Youth Championship belt back to San Diego!!

Mercito has been trained by the Legendary Coach Freddie Roach and Marvin Somodio at the Wildcard Boxing Gym, and managed by his father/trainer Anecito in San Diego.  It is here where Mercito now calls him home away from home.  Mercito won the WBO NABO Lightweight Championship under Coach Freddie in June 2018.  Anecito understands Mercito’s desire and hunger to be the best in the world and is impressed with Mercito’s overall work ethic and toughness.   With this great relationship and the hunger to become a world champion, Team Gesta began its journey to the top of the boxing world.

Currently, Mercito is training with Marvin Somodio at the Combinations Boxing Academy in Long Beach, CA.

Although an honor to be compared to Manny Pacquiao and Donito Donaire, Mercito wants to be known for himself and his own accomplishments.

With the record 32-3-3 (17 KOs), Mercito is definitely on his way to fulfill his dreams of becoming a World Champion.  Mercito appreciates all of his blessing that have passed his way, and thanks the lord every day for all of his accomplishments.  However, he won’t be satisfied until he reaches his ultimate goal of being a world champion.
